 Elizabeth Curnow (c1834-1906)
« Result #3 on Aug 30, 2009, 5:34am »

Hi there

I am hoping someone can help. I am looking into the background of ELIZABETH CURNOW born c1834 in Arklow (Co Wicklow, Ireland). Her parents were MICHAEL CURNOW and ELIZABETH MATTHEWS. She is believed to have travelled to Australia in about 1852 when she was about 18. She married WILLIAM MATTHEWS (1822-1896) in Irish Town (Geelong, Victoria – Australia) on 17 March 1855. I do not know if he is related to her mother - as they are both Matthews

I am seeking information on Elizabeth’s background and family and why was someone with a Cornish name was born in Ireland? Family stories said she came from Zennor (or nearby) in Cornwall. Is there a link to her husband who also came from that area? The marriage certificate records that her father was a boatman. I have found no record of her birth or baptism nor any records of her parents. Does anyone know on what ship she travelled to Australia?

I can share information on descendents of this couple

Hi

I am also looking into the family of Charles Matthews and Kitty Hollow. However it would be necessary to confirm that they are indeed the same couple.

My ancestor is William Matthews who was the son of Charles Matthews and Kitty Hollow. Kitty may also have been known as Catherine. William was born c1822 in Zennor and came to Australia on the Thetis (probably) in 1849.

The 1841 census records show that at that time Charls was 55 and Kitty 50. Their children listed are William (20), Christiana (15), Charls (15) and James (10). If Ann is a daughter of this couple she may have already married and moved out. I have yet to positively link the William Mathews in Australia to this family.

Interestingly William Matthews spent a large part of his life also working (mining) in Fryerstown - where two infant children are buried. If Ann is William's sister than your ancestor would have been his nephew. William died north of Ballarat in 1896.

Regards

Michael

« Result #6 on Apr 27, 2009, 5:54am »

Hi everyone,

I work for a pretty big international website which I’m interested in promoting by using affiliate publishers.

Is there any list or board you can tell me about in which I’ll be able to find contact information of websites owners who are interested in becoming an affiliates?

Thanks!!

Hi, my maiden name is also Cornish. My grandmother was Henrietta Duganne who was married to Melvin Abraham Cornish. Their son Abram Loami married Grace Shotwell. My father was Melvin C. Cornish. Henrietta and Melvin had 7 children(Eva, Abram, William, Melvin, Ellen Ida, Arthur, and Theodore). They lived in Brooklyn. My dad grew up near the Navy Yard at 159 Heyward St. He enlisted in the Navy in World War I. I don't have a lot of information on Henrietta except that her father was Charles Duganne and he was a ship caulker. I will be glad to share what I have with you.

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself, I have been researching my Quick side for some years I am also researching / Matthews/ Roberts / Thomas/ surnames
I'm wanting to know more about Matthew Quick my G G Grandfather, he was born C 1808 Farmer married to Ann Matthews they lived at Trendine Zennor Cornwall - Ann Matthews parents (Charles Matthews and Kitty Hollow )

I am very interested to find out more about Matthew Quick's siblings parents etc. He was of Methodist faith I could not find a marriage certificate but found information from a Zennor Banns application for marriage
Could not find birth certificates for Matthew, William, all information gathered from Australian Births Marriage and Death Certificates. DOB differ due to Census information changed age several times between census.

Matthews Son - William Quick came to Australia where he lived in Frystown Victoria he was a gold miner and married Elizabeth Gilbert Roberts also from Cornwall in Australia, do not have further information on Elizabeth, but would love to find out more.
His son also William Quick also a gold miner married Mary Ann Knowles

Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

 Cornish Ancestors
« Result #9 on Jan 11, 2009, 6:45am »

My Cornish family tree is quite large with names such as Keast, Barnicoat and Growden. It's the Growden family that I'm interested in. There was a John Growden born in 1831 who married a Mary Libby, they had two children, Joseph born abt 1853 and Mathilda born abt 1851. I would like to find out if Joseph actually married and had children, as none of his father's siblings seemed to have carried on to produce families, except for William Growden born in 1835/6, he married a Selina Axworthy Riggs.
